Shipping Information

Mudman Bonsai Company specializes in tropical and sub-tropical bonsai trees.  Cold weather becomes more of an issue when shipping tropical trees.  During winter, we cannot ship trees if the temperature falls below 35 degrees anywhere between South Florida and purchasers location.  If the temperatures are between 35 and 49 degrees, the trees will ship with a heat pack. Most trees we sell do not like being below 50 degrees more than a few days.  Even with the safeguard of heat packs, the trees will only be shipped on Mondays and Tuesdays so the trees are not left over the weekend on a cold truck or warehouse.  All trees must be shipped with 3 day shipping if heat packs have to be used due to the 72 hour limitation of the heat pack.  Once temperatures are above 50 degrees consistently, we will offer regular ground shipping.  We know that three day shipping is considerably more expensive than standard ground shipping, but we have to safeguard the trees first and foremost.  Tree's will not be shipped if temperatures are below 35 degrees.

All other items purchased at the time of the tree, will usually be shipped within 24 hours.  Trees always ship separately from all other items.

Mudman Bonsai Company ships Monday through Friday.  Items are usually shipped within 24 hours of purchase.

Calculating Dimensional Weight

The first of the year 2015, the shipping companies went to dimensional weight shipping.  For instance, when shipping a 12" x 10" x 3.5' rectangle pot, it would need to be packed in a 14" x 12" x 8" box with the appropriate amount of packing material (bubble wrap, peanuts etc.) to keep the pot from breakage in shipping.  If the actual weight of the pot after being packed is 4 pounds and is packed in the 12" x 10" x 8" box, the shipping companies figure the dimensional weight as follows.  12 x 10 x 8 = 960.  Then take the 960 / 166 = 5.78 pounds, rounded up to 6 pounds.  Since the 6 pounds is the greater than 4 pounds, the shipping companies charge for the 6 pounds.

If the pot weighed 8 pounds and was packed in the same box with a dimensional weight of 6 pounds, the shipping companies would charge the 8 pounds, they will always charge the greater amount.  This really impacts the price of shipping trees.  A tree may weigh 12 pounds, but if it takes a 18" x 18" x 24" box to ship a tree, the dimensional weight shipping would be 18 x 18 x 24 = 7776 / 166 = 46.84 pounds, rounded up (they always round up) 47 pounds would be what they would charge for.

We make no money on shipping or handling and charge what the shipping companies charge us.

We just do not feel comfortable selling you a $4.99 pot for $14.99 and calling it free shipping when it is not free and you are paying for the shipping anyway.

Shipping Weight:  The weight shown for shipping, is based on dimensional weight.  Dimensional weight will be how shipping charges are determined by FedEx or the Post Office.
